As NXT’s Women’s Division enters a transitional period of change, spots have opened up, which means new women must step up to keep to momentum going. Enter Billie Kay.

Recently on NXT TV, Billie Kay has emerged as possibly the new heel on the rise within the NXT Women’s Division. After Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, and Alexa Bliss all got called up to Raw and SmackDown respectively in the Draft, a fairly significant void was left. Without any true heels, who could the NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka, feud with for the title?

Heels are often times the jumpstart for feuds and story lines

In wrestling, majority of the time, it’s the heels who take the wheel and steer in the necessary direction. Heels are often times the jumpstart, or the catalyst, for feuds and story lines, usually instigating the rivalry by attacking the babyface, be it physically or verbally. As is the case with Billie Kay, whose newfound smug attitude (a result of wrestling a match on SmackDown), she is the reason as to why Ember Moon will be debuting against her at Takeover: Back to Brooklyn.

WWE’s women’s evolution must continue to keep rolling. It must continue to consistently create new stars and raise the bar even further. In the beginning, there was Paige and Emma. From there, the Four Horsewomen emerged in Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley, revolutionizing and bringing about a new era in women’s wrestling, much like John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, and Brock Lesnar rose from OVW in 2002 and changed the landscape.

After the Four Horsewomen, the next generation stepped up in Asuka, Nia Jax, Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Dana Brooke. With four of the five on the main roster, and Bayley almost certainly to follow soon, Asuka is left with no one to challenge her after her feud with Bayley concludes.

Her experience can definitely help in building up the others around her, especially Peyton Royce and Liv Morgan

Of the newer NXT girls, Billie Kay has gotten the most TV time, both wrestling and cutting promos in backstage segments. As the heel, Billie Kay can become the focal point of the women’s division in this fourth generation. Her experience can definitely help in building up the others around her, especially Peyton Royce and Liv Morgan, the latter of whom has huge potential to be the next big babyface in the roster.

Billie Kay could also pose as the next threat to Asuka, and with her experience would be capable of hanging with the undefeated NXT Women’s Champion and put on a great match. Given the amount of TV time Billie has gotten, it can be presumed that NXT is grooming her to become a star.

In NXT, it’s more often than not the title matches that do the most in building stars

A potential title match and even a reign as NXT Women’s Champion would also give the division a boost as it would create new championship feuds. In NXT, it’s more often than not the title matches that do the most in building stars.

Much like Bayley, Asuka could be on her way to the main roster within the year. Bayley and Asuka’s call-ups would leave even bigger voids in NXT’s women’s division, and Triple H would be wise to begin prepping the next crop of talent now, starting with Billie Kay.

She has the look, she has experience, she has the in-ring ability, she has presence on the mic, she has a good entrance theme, and she has the ‘it’ factor. The future of NXT’s women’s division is wide open. What it will look like is up in the air, but it quite possibly starts with Billie Kay establishing herself as the next top star in the roster.
