A look at the live results and action for the NXT Tag Team Championship match between The Revival and Johnny Gargano/Tommaso Ciampa
At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, Tag Team Champions The Revival took on the upstart duo Ciampa & Gargano for the straps. Wilder and Dawson, now two-time tag champs after recapturing the titles from American Alpha back in June at TakeOver: The End, have clearly entrenched themselves as one of the best team to ever come through NXT but will have their hands full with the 2 young Americans.
The feud started up on the July 20th when Gargano and Ciampa interrupted the champions backstage interview to remind them that they were the last team to defeat them. Gargano and Ciampa had been on a torrid run in the NXT tag team division and were the logical choice for the next title shot but they took it to the next level on the August 3rd episode of NXT. After defeating TM61, the duo came to the ring cutting a promo which ended in a physical confrontation that Gargano and Ciampa got the better of. They even counted a mock three.
Shortly after that encounter, Gargano and Ciampa were officially named No. 1 contenders which set up their match for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II.
Gargano and Ciampa are out first to a huge ovation from the crowd. The Revival, not so much, which means they’re doing their jobs as heels.

With the titles on the line, the teams are announced in the ring and we’re underway. Ciampa and Dawson start off and match each other move for move. Gargano’s in now and he gets a “Johnny Wrestling” chant after he and Ciampa land a beautiful tag combo. Gargano lands a beautiful running front kick on Wilder who’s found his way in. Some trickery from The Revival gets Dawson back in and he clobbers Gargano with an elbow.
The Revival have a bit of success but Gargano fights back and now all 4 men are in the ring which prompts the champs to take a powder. Gargano then took out Wilder and Ciampa, Dawson. The challengers pose on the second rope to the crowd’s delight. Back in the ring, The Revival use some classic double teaming to beat down Ciampa. Man, these guys are so good.
Ciampa tries to fight back and accidentally hits an enzuigiri on Dawson, aiming for Wilder. Dawson used the momentum of getting kicked to pull Gargano off the apron before Ciampa could tag out. Brilliant stuff. A double elevated gourd buster gets a close two for The Revival.
The beat down on Ciampa continues as he repeatedly gets ever so close to making the tag to Gargano. Wilder sees a tag about to take place and intentionally launches himself over the top rope to distract the ref. When the tag is finally made the ref doesn’t see it and the champs use the opportunity to deliver a classic double team move. The crowd is furious.
Ciampa’s beating intensifies but he finally makes the tag to Gargano who is on a mission. A clothesline, a belly to belly, a roll up kick, and a neck breaker gets a close 2 on Dawson. A ridiculous looking middle rope slingshot spear gets another 2.
“This is awesome” resonates through the crowd. A DDT from Wilder gets a close 2 on Gargano. Ciampa is back in and he has Dawson locked tight in an armbar but Wilder barely made the save. A slugfest breaks out between Ciampa and Dawson but Gargano and Wilder get back in which results in another close 2 for the challengers. A double superkick puts Wilder to sleep and it’s 1-2-3 for the win but Wilder’s foot is on the ropes!
Gargano and Ciampa celebrate too long and Wilder chop blocks Johnny. The Revival finish off Johnny’s knee and Dawson locks on a reverse figure four for the tap.
Gargano and Ciampa got a ridiculous ovation for their effort.
