NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II: 3 Worst Moments
By Marc Madison
NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II took place on Saturday, while a number of moments stood out as being their best there were a few that weren’t.
NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, which took place Saturday, August 20th, at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, was without question a massive event. The talent that was on the card did everything they needed to do in order to justify their spot on the card. The event itself had incredible matches throughout the night, not to mention debuting talent and unbelievable entrances. The men and women that were a part of the event helped make history.
For all of the events massive highs and incredible accomplishments, there were a few things that were somewhat disappointing. The lows were few and far between, but they were there., not outlandishly bad, but rather questionable. It would have been nice to see some talent fans weren’t as familiar with, but that isn’t a major criticism.
Of course, as a fan, it’s easy to question why some choices are made and why some turned out the way they did. Here are the three worst moments from NXT Takeover II from Brooklyn. What were they?

3. The systematic beat down of Austin Aries
The match between Austin Aries and No Way Jose proved to be an effective display by two contestants that were willing to do anything and everything to get the better of the other. While Jose brought the fight to the veteran Aries, and was able to challenge him throughout the match, Aries ultimately proved to be too much for the highly exciting and entertaining young star from the Dominican Republic.
Aries’ knowledge and expertise were the deciding factors in laying waste to Jose. After the match, Aries proved that he is every bit the heel when he beat down Jose mercilessly. He even put him in his last chancery finishing move once again.
Then, a familiar entrance theme rang over the speakers that of the recently returned Hideo Itami. While Itami was met with a chorus of cheers, when he hit the Go To Sleep the roof blew off in the Barclays Centre. While it was a great moment for Itami, it didn’t seem to make sense to leave Aries laying after coming off of a win.
2. Billie Kay receives the ‘Tye Dillinger Treatment’
Over the last month, fans of NXT have seen sultry and lanky Aussie Billie Kay booked to go over opponent after opponent, even notable independent talent Santana Garrett. Kay recently approached NXT general manager Steven Regal saying that she couldn’t understand how NXT Takeover could take place without her .
Regal agreed and decided that she would face the debuting Ember Moon. There was a shroud of mystery around Moon , though she has earned a name for herself on the independent scene. However, Moon was about as refined a competitor as anyone, male or female, to debut in NXT.
The problem was that NXT spent the last month developing Billie Kay, just to have her lose during her first featured match on a Takeover event. This isn’t meant to take anything away from Moon and her debut, it was just a step back for Billie Kay. Hope this doesn’t mean she’ll be used to enhance others on the card.
1. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa should have walked away NXT tag team champions
Since they first appeared together prior to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic last year, both wrestling fans that hadn’t seen them before and those that had were excited at the possibilities that would come their way.
As someone that has seen both compete live, I can attest to how good they are as singles wrestlers, and putting them together only heightens their chances for success in NXT. Their recent performance in the Cruiserweight Classic was also another opportunity to showcase just how talented both of these men are. Their match aginst each other in the first round of the tournament was great publicity for both and certainly added exposure.

When NXT Takeover II took place in Brooklyn, it was safe to think that they would walk away with the NXT tag team championship. They put up a valiant effort, but ultimately The Revival walked out the same way the walked in. It is no slight on the champions, but it was an unfortunate result for the challengers.
