WWE SummerSlam 2016: Full Match Card

WWE SummerSlam 2016 kicks off Sunday night, so here is a look at the full match card.

WWE’s biggest event of the Summer is just around the corner. SummerSlam 2016 comes to us live on Sunday night August 21, from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This is the WWE’s first pay-per-view since the brand split and we will likely see several feuds come to an end and several new feuds begin. This year’s SummerSlam card is stacked, featuring 11 matches on the main show card and two more matches on the pre-show.

In the main event, we will see Brock Lesnar take on Randy Orton. This is a feud that has been built up for over a month through promos and surprise attacks. Interestingly enough, Lesnar called out Bill Goldberg recently and challenged him to a fight. Goldberg will be at SummerSlam this year so we could possibly see him interfere in Lesnar’s match.

Elsewhere, Seth Rollins will also face off against Finn Balor in a match where the winner will be crowned Raw’s new WWE Universal Champion. SummerSlam will be the first time we see Balor’s “Demon King” character in action, but will it be enough to beat Rollins?

The WWE Championship will also be on the line at SummerSlam with Dean Ambrose set to take on Dolph Ziggler in a match to determine who will be the top guy on SmackDown. Ziggler knocked Ambrose out with a super kick the last time the two were face to face, so this should be a very interesting match.

WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks will also defend her title against Charlotte on Sunday. Earlier this month, Banks picked up a win over Dana Brooke resulting in Brooke being banned from ringside at SummerSlam. Banks beat Charlotte the last time the two squared off to win the women’s title, but can she do it again?

Each brand’s second tier titles will be on the line this Sunday. Rusev will defend his United States Championship against Roman Reigns and The Miz will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews. Both Rusev and The Miz have held their titles for some time now, but this could be the night we see those titles change hands.

John Cena is outside of the SummerSlam main event this year. He will take on AJ Styles for the third time this year. Styles has had trouble beating Cena without help from The Club, so he now gets a chance to prove he can beat Cena without help.

The Club will go head-to-head with The New Day for the tag team titles. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have been a big problem for The New Day lately. Big E will not be able to compete at SummerSlam, so this could be the night The New Day lose the tag titles.

Kevin Owens and Jericho will also be teaming up to take on Enzo and Cass in a tag team match. Elsewhere, Sheamus and Cesaro will square off in their first match of a best of seven series.

Most of SmackDown’s women’s division will be featured at SummerSlam in a six women tag team match. Alexa Bliss and Natalya will take on Carmella, Naomi, and Becky Lynch.

Eva Marie was supposed to partner with Alexa Bliss and Natalya, but she has been suspended by the WWE for violating the company’s wellness policy. The WWE has not announced a replacement for Marie, but it is safe to assume that someone will take her place.

This year’s SummerSlam pre-show will also feature two tag team matches. The first match will be a showcase of SmackDown’s tag team division. The Ascension, The Vaudevillains and Breezango will take on The Usos, American Alpha and The Hype Bros. The Dudley Boyz will also face off against  Neville and Sami Zayn in the second match of the SummerSlam pre-show.
