What happened when Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar battled at SummerSlam?

Although these two future Hall of Famers have been near the top of the main event scene for the better part of a decade and a half, they’ve never faced each other in a meaningful match.  In fact, they’re only televised singles bout was five-minute match on Smackdown in 2002 that Lesnar won.  Since then the two have never crossed paths.

That all changed after UFC 200 in July when, during the post-fight press conference after his win over Mark Hunt, Lesnar announced that he was wrestling Orton at SummerSlam.  Then on August 1st  Orton appeared on RAW to catch Lesnar with an RKO out of nowhere.  Lesnar evened the deal the following night on Smackdown, attacking Orton and delivering his F-1 to The Viper.

This is going to be some intense stuff and hopefully, the stage of this being the underserved main event will bring the best out of each guy.

Lesnar and Heyman are out first to mix of cheers and boos.  Heyman cuts a quick brilliant promo introducing The Beast and here comes Orton to a bigger ovation.  Interesting.

Lesnar takes early control driving his shoulder into Orton’s gut before Orton hits a dropkick and then fails on an RKO.  German suplex No. 1.  No. 2.  No. 3.  No. 4.  Orton’s trying to block these but to no avail.  No. 5.  No. 6.  Orton rolls outside, already beaten up.  Lesnar follows him out and body slams Orton on one of the announce tables.  One more time and Orton goes through it.

No. 7.  Lesnar is getting another announce table ready for destruction.  Orton counters with an RKO on said table but no break.  Lesnar climbs back into the ring right into Orton’s rope assist DDT.  A second RKO and Lesnar kicks out at two.

Orton readies up his skull-kicking boot and goes for it but catches an F-5 for his troubles but barely kicks out at two.  Lesnar removes his gloves and starts to ground and pound The Viper.  Orton is bleeding like a sieve and the doctor comes in to take a look.  Lesnar pushes the doctor out of the way and continues the assault.  And then again.  The doctor calls the match.

And now Lesnar is assaulting Orton some more and Shane McMahon comes out to save his guy.  He gets an F-5 for his troubles.  Heyman is screaming at Lesnar.

Well, .that was utterly pointless. What did you think of this SummerSlam match?
