What Should WWE Do With Rusev After He Returns?

Rusev’s time away from the company is shortly coming to an end, so what should the WWE do with the Bulgarian star after he returns?

There are few superstars in the WWE who are as talented and physically imposing as Rusev. The current United States Champion is great on the mic as a heel and he always puts on solid matches in the ring.

After splitting off from The League of Nations in April, Rusev earned his way into the U.S. title picture after he won a battle royal to become the number one contender. Rusev went on to beat Kalisto for the title at Extreme Rules and he’s dominated practically everyone in his way since.

Rusev’s most recent feud with Roman Reigns was really entertaining to watch. Reigns gets a lot of flack for his promo skills but he really shined on the mic during his feud with Rusev. The two wrestlers also put on a great match in August on Raw before SummerSlam.

We never got see a proper ending to their feud, but that doesn’t mean it is too late. Rusev is not in a feud at the moment, so he could reignite his feud with Reigns after he comes back from his honeymoon. The only issue with this is that Reigns is still in the WWE Universal title picture. So this probably won’t happen.

There are really only a few superstars on Raw’s roster at the moment, who are actually credible contenders for Rusev’s title. The only issue is that most of them are already in feuds with other superstars. However, there is one guy who fits the bill and that person is Sami Zayn.

Rusev really needs someone great to feud with for the U.S. title. Prior to his feud with Reigns, the Bulgarian superstar took on opponents who we knew would never beat him. People like Titus O’Neil, Zach Ryder, and Kalisto are not terrible wrestlers, but they were never credible contenders for the U.S. Title.

Zayn is different from the rest. He is an amazing performer in the ring and he is really over with the fans. Regardless of who Zayn wrestles, he always looks strong and impressive.

This is the type of opponent Rusev needs. If the two stars are able to put on great matches, this feud can go on for a long time. The Bulgarian superstar does not need to win the feud or retain the title, but it would help Zayn a lot if he came out on top. After all, Rusev can’t be the U.S. champion forever.

Zayn and Rusev both have the potential to be headliners some day, but Zayn is at a place in his career where he needs to pick up some important wins. Zayn is directionless at the moment and as great as he is, he is in danger of having his career become stagnant.

Rusev on the other hand, could stand to lose a few matches. Even dropping the title to Zayn is not a bad idea because it could serve as a way to push the Bulgarian superstar to the main event level. If this feud is booked well, it will only benefit both superstars.

Rusev is already a star in the WWE, but a strong feud in the upcoming months could be enough to push him to the next level.
