What happened between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler at No Mercy 2016?

The feud between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler is one of the most compelling ones in the WWE going right now.  The rivalry between these two superstars began after SummerSlam in August after Ziggler, unsuccessful in dethroning then WWE champion Dean Ambrose at that event, confronted Miz on SmackDown Live and asked for a shot at the IC title. He got that opportunity at Backlash in September when Miz, with some help from his fiancée, Maryse, defeated Dolph by pinfall.

Ziggler didn’t quit from there, though and has been on Miz’s trail since only to keep coming up short.  Out of options and seemingly desperate, Ziggler offered up his career for one more shot at “The A-Lister” and his championship.  So what happened at their No Mercy battle?

There is unquestionably a buzz in the air for this match with Ziggler’s career on the line. Dolph is hot early and the action quickly spills outside and then back inside as Ziggler’s dropkicks were tight tonight.

The Miz then took over and the beating lasted a solid 5 minutes. The Miz continued to cement himself as the best heel on the roster as he taunted the crowd with Daniel Bryan’s “YES!” gesture. Ziggler battled back with a series of moves that culminated with a swinging neckbreaker. The Miz used the ropes and grab the tights to try and get the win but was unsuccessful and after a DDT went to work on Dolph’s leg to soften up for the figure four which he eventually got.

The Miz took the turnbuckle pad out as Ziggler battled back with his friend Zack’s Rough Ryder.  Miz used the exposed buckle and a slingshot powerbomb for a close 2.  Miz once again mimicked Daniel Bryan with some kicks but Ziggler nailed the Zig-Zag for a 2 and 3 quarters.  After a close roll-up, Ziggler locked in a rear naked choke bit Miz got to the ropes.  Maryse sprayed hair spray in Ziggler’s eyes which led to a Skull Crushing Finale but Dolph got a leg on the ropes.

A super kick put Miz down and The Spirit Squad intervened on Maryse’s command and both surviving members took Ziggler superkicks.  Another Skull Crushing Finale gets a close 3.  As the referee ejected Maryse and The Spirit Squad, Dolph landed a superkick for the 1-2-3.  Outstanding match.
