WWE Money in the Bank 2017: Show to Be SmackDown-Exclusive

The WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view is going to be solely for SmackDown.

One of the questions with the WWE brand split would be the designation for certain pay-per-views like Money in the Bank, TLC, Elimination Chamber, Extreme Rules, and Hell in a Cell. All of these are gimmicked shows, but so far, SmackDown has received TLC and Elimination Chamber while Raw hosted Hell in a Cell.

Well, tack on one more for SmackDown because on Monday, WWE announced the details for the Money in the Bank PPV. They confirmed that the Blue Brand would host this show, meaning they get the annual ladder match for the Money in the Bank briefcase, as well. This is different from the previous brand split when they were two of these bouts to earn an opportunity at a World title. Tickets also go on sale for MITB on Friday, February 17.

"One of sports-entertainment’s most historic cities will be the site of one of WWE’s greatest traditions when the Scottrade Center in St. Louis hosts SmackDown LIVE’s Money in the Bank 2017 on Sunday, June 18."

Having SmackDown host the Money in the Bank PPV seemingly guarantees that the Superstar who wins will only be able to cash-in on whoever is holding the WWE Championship. However, what if this person is allowed to go to whichever brand they want to cash-in? It would make for a compelling angle, as the champion on Raw would always have to look over their shoulder to see if the briefcase holder is there.

If WWE plays it safe, though, then this Money in the Bank winner will only navigate Tuesday nights. They’ve taken risks in the past with briefcase holders like Seth Rollins and Sheamus, so maybe there’s a potential experimental direction to go here by letting the winner go wherever they want to.
