5 Best NJPW Stars Right Now
By Jay Sichler
5. Hirooki Goto
Their are not too many wrestlers in NJPW who are more accomplished than Hirooki Goto. The Chaos Stable Member has risen through the ranks of NJPW and has been one the promotions biggest names for the last few years.
Goto began his career in NJPW as a junior heavyweight. In the division he would win the IWGP Junior Tag Tag Team Championships with his partner Minoru. The duo would hold the championship belts for 9 months before dropping them.
After leaving the promotion for nearly a year, Goto returned to the promotion in 2007 and has been with NJPW ever since. When he returned he began his career in the heavyweight division. Here Goto has accomplished nearly everything you can.
Goto has won nearly every championship in the heavyweight class. Goto has been a two time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, One time IWGP Tag Team Champion, and is the current Never Openweight Champion.
Along with his championship accomplishments, Goto has shown his dominance it tournaments as well. Goto has won the New Japan Cup on three occasions (2009, 2010 & 2012) and the G1 Climax Tournament (2008).
The one thing that Goto has not been able to accomplish is winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Despite having numerous attempts at winning it, Goto has always come up just a bit short.
Despite this blemish Goto’s ring work, determination and never quit attitude has made him one of the most popular stars in the history of NJPW.
