Should Titus O’Neil be subjected to begging superstars to be his tag team partner instead of teaming up with his old one in WWE?
So let me get this straight, on the latest episode of WWE RAW — Titus O’Neil had a filler match against Sheamus. Why do you ask? Sheamus ignored O’Neil’s plea of joining forces as a tag team.
You might as well say the flaw of that logic could have been solved last year after the WWE Draft.
The former WWE Tag Team Champion has been a shell of himself since he split from his tag team partner: Darren Young. Titus has been nothing more than an enhancement talent to put over guys. There have been times where he’s played like the butt of the jokes from other superstars. Being subjected to that kind of mockery is beneath a former tag team champion.
Titus should have never split from Darren Young, to begin with. The Prime Time Players were a credible and entertaining tag team that the WWE Universe gravitated to. Separating the duo created a void in the RAW tag team division and in their respective careers.
Young was given a horrible gimmick to be the lackey of WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund, with no character direction. On the other hand, O’Neil was stuck promoting his personal brand as a one-dimensional salesman and also being the punchline of two-minute segments. Their credibility as former champions was shredded to pieces after their character metamorphosis.
The Prime Time Players need to be reunited in order to give a jolt to their respective careers.
The RAW Tag Team Division has been shallow since the WWE draft last year. Seeing the same four teams battle each other for months on end has been stale and boring. Having Young and O’Neil team up again would spice things up on RAW.
The key would be how to get both these men to team up once more. The last time they were seen together was last September in a rivalry that never concluded. Shortly afterward, Young suffered a severe injury and is out for months. One way to re-package the tag team is to start off with the eventual return of Darren Young.
The best way to re-introduce Young back to RAW would be to run interference as a masked intruder in O’Neil’s matches and helping him get the win. It would create intrigue on who the intruder would be. Then one day, Bob Backlund would confront the intruder backstage and the intruder would reveal himself to be Young. Young would attack Backlund and drag him to the ring. He would then call out O’Neil and explain to him that he did all this so he can capture the RAW Tag Team Championships. O’Neil would come to the ring and greet Young, then proceed to beat up Backlund as a statement that the Prime Time Players have arrived.
This would be a perfect way to re-package the Prime Time Players as a fundamentally altered tag team. Instead of dancing and yelling that they’re making millions of dollars, their main focus would be, to become the RAW Tag Team Champions at any costs. Dismantling a WWE Hall of Famer like Bob Backlund would show the WWE Universe that the Prime Time Players aren’t playing anymore.

Titus O’Neil shouldn’t in a situation where he has to beg superstars backstage to be his tag team partner. WWE must reconsider re-forming the Prime Time Players. The WWE Brass shouldn’t have tag team specialists parade themselves as jokes for the viewers’ amusement. But will WWE learn their lesson or will we see more of the same?
