What happened during the Neville vs. Jack Gallagher match at WWE Fastlane?
Heading into WWE Fastlane 2017, Neville has lived up to his moniker as the “King of the Cruiserweights.” He has dominated the division since his arrival, giving them a known name. It helped because all the names thrown at the fans were unknowns, especially if you didn’t watch the WWE Cruiserweight Classic this past summer.
As for Jack Gallagher, he has stood out the most of any of the debuting cruiserweights from 2016. His unique charisma has connected with the fans and arguably put him into the mix to win a title at Fastlane. Would it come to fruition, though?
Neville worked most of the early offense on Gallagher, who succumbed to not being able to match the high flying of the champion. It saw him take a beatdown from his fellow Englishman, until he went through the ropes and pulled something different out of his playbook with a dive.
On the top rope, Gallagher hit a back superplex on Neville, something not seen often. It only resulted in a near-fall, but was a very fun spot.
“This is awesome” chants then filled the Bradley Center, something rarely heard for a cruiserweight match, which was great to see. However, Gallagher couldn’t make them happy, as Neville hit the Red Arrow for the win.
Neville is likely heading into WrestleMania 33 with a WWE Cruiserweight Championship defense. It could be relegated to the pre-show, unless we get a multi-man ladder match for the title, which would feature a large portion of the Cruiserweight division. Maybe Austin Aries is even involved, as his vignettes have played for the past few weeks.
