2. Jericho Deserves a WrestleMania Moment

Quick, when you think of Chris Jericho and WrestleMania, what comes to mind?

If you sit down for a while and think about it, you come up with a few things. His match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XIX, for starters. It was a great match – that Jericho lost, before low blowing Michaels after the match.

There’s the match Jericho was supposed to have against Mickey Rourke. But that was scrapped in favor of a 3-on-1 elimination match. Jericho flew solo in that one, and actually emerged victorious – over three Hall of Famers, no less. But by that point, Jimmy Snuka was in no real shape to compete, and Roddy Piper’s best days were long gone. Only Ricky Steamboat put up some kind of fight, but the fact remains that he, too, was well past his prime. To an outsider, it looked like Chris Jericho beat up three old men.

The world title matches Jericho won or lost at WrestleManias are largely afterthoughts for each card. (Yes, the one at WrestleMania XX against Christian where Trish Stratus slapped Y2J is an afterthought, too.) Even the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania 21 that Jericho came up with was not really a showcase for Y2J.

If there’s one thing Jericho deserves, it’s a true WrestleMania moment. He should be victorious in a match with some actual stakes. That match should be memorable, and for the right reasons.

This year, all the pieces are in place against Kevin Owens. KO is in the prime of his career, and capable of a great match any night of the week. After being in a multi-man match in his Mania debut, Owens is sure to be motivated to shine. Not to mention the resentment of not getting a world title match pushing Owens to steal the show.

And Jericho is more than capable of pushing Owens to be the best he can be. It’s got a chance to be something special, with a great story behind it. If Jericho comes away victorious, he gets his big moment.
