Sami Zayn Brings Kevin Owens to Tears in WWE Live Event Promo (Video)

In a promo cut by Sami Zayn at a WWE live event in Montreal, Canada, he brought long-time rival, Kevin Owens to tears.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens’ history in the ring goes back to their Ring of Honor days, and even beyond that. Their rivalry took off in ROH, when Owens (as Kevin Steen) turned on Zayn (El Generico) and produced one of the company’s greatest programs ever. It eventually went to WWE, when both were signed.

In early 2016, after Zayn reached the main roster, he and Owens started feuding again. This went through the spring and into Battleground, but they haven’t met much since.

Well, on Friday night, these two main evented a WWE live event in Montreal, Canada, a city where Zayn and Owens are immensely popular due to their Canadian heritage. After their match, the Underdog from the Underground cut a passionate promo, praising KO for the work he did as WWE Universal Championship, among other things. This brought Owens to tears, who stormed off.

From what Zayn was referencing, Owens held the Universal Championship from August 2016 to March 5, losing it to Goldberg at WWE Fastlane. This stretch saw him main event PPVs from Clash of Champions to Hell in a Cell, Roadblock and have one of the biggest matches at Royal Rumble, before dropping the belt three weeks ago. He’ll now contend for Chris Jericho’s United States Championship at WrestleMania 33.

Zayn also brought up how this is his WrestleMania. He currently has no plans for the upcoming weekend, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him used in some way. Maybe that gets revealed on the next episode of Raw, along with Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman, all of whom are among the show’s top names.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have a friendship and rivalry that will always be part of the wrestling landscape. So far, we’ve only seen them go head-to-head, but maybe they’ll team again, one day.
