Becky Lynch vs Carmella
Result: No Contest
Rating: 2.75 out of 5 stars
When we return from commercial break, our first match of the evening involves the women of SmackDown Live. Tonight, the outspoken rookie Carmella was given the chance to earn a huge victory against Becky Lynch. While the match progressed for several minutes, the action was never able to get into a higher gear. Alexa Bliss and Mickie James were present on commentary, and their bad blood eventually led to a brawl. Their encounter made its way into the ring, which in turn caused all four women to get involved.
Becky Lynch & Mickie James vs. Alexa Bliss and Carmella
Result: Alexa Bliss and Carmella win via pinfall
Rating: 3.25 out of 5 stars
After a brief pause in the action, the focus shifts back to the ring where a tag match between the four athletes is taking place. Lynch and Mickie took advantage over the action early, using their experience to catch their opponents off-guard. Unfortunately, Mickie would become distracted by Bliss’s actions on the apron which allowed Carmella to take advantage. The heels would keep up their attack for a short period, until Lynch managed to get the tag. She went on a rampage and appeared to have the match won, but things changed in a hurry. James Ellsworth tripped the Irish LassKicker, allowed Carmella to score the victory.
Adding to the mayhem, Natalya decided to make her presence felt as well. She would attack her rival Lynch while the heels damaged Mickie. Then in a surprise twist, Naomi made her shocking return to the ring. Looking better than ever, she laid waste to the women inside the ring and made an announcement. At WrestleMania, she will be the final woman inserted into the Women’s Championship match.
While Naomi’s return created interest for the upcoming title match, one can’t help but feel that this feud has been rushed somewhat. These women have the chance to create something special, and yet it seems the creative team can’t devote enough time for them. Here’s hoping they can defy expectations and emerge as the top Women’s division in WWE.
Backstage, Daniel Bryan is approached by Fandango and Tyler Breeze, who is still sporting his cosplay of Nikki Bella. The General Manager announces a 10 man tag team match for later tonight, with the winners participating in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
