Universal Championship Match: Goldberg (c) vs Brock Lesnar
Ok, I’m going to take a couple of deep breaths here because what I’m honestly thinking about this match is not appropriate for journalism. But let’s take a minute to calmly think about how the last few months have played out since Goldberg returned to the WWE. In his very first match back with the company after being gone for 13 years, he gets Lesnar right away at Survivor Series and defeats him in 86 seconds. Yes, Lesnar. A 4-time WWE champion, UFC Champion, 2-time All-American collegiate wrestler, the man responsible for ending The Undertaker’s streak, and the mauler of John Cena at the 2014 SummerSlam. That guy lost to a 50-year-old guy who hadn’t wrestled in over 13 years.
So if that wasn’t ridiculous enough, Goldberg then accepts a challenge for Wrestlemania with the guy who he has now defeated twice, having won that debacle of a match at Wrestlemania XX. Huh? What on earth entitles Lesnar to a championship match at “The Grand Daddy Of Them All”? Honestly, this whole charade has hurt the wrestling business as it’s made absolutely no sense and has alienated a good portion of fans. Have you been hearing to boos that are beginning to come to the surface for Goldberg? Expect that and more Sunday as this feud has been a joke.
Luckily for wrestling fans, this one most likely won’t last long. As physically fit as Goldberg appears, his wrestling ability looks every bit of that 50 years on the planet that he is. I mean, the guy is dripping sweat during his promos. This will most likely be his last so match, so there are two ways the company can go with this. Goldberg wins and retires the following night on RAW as champion and the belt becomes vacant. The other option is to have Lesnar win and hold the title hostage until SummerSlam. I’m praying for the former, but it’ll most likely be the latter.
Winner and new champion: Brock Lesnar
