Cruiserweight Title Match: Neville (c) vs Austin Aries
First things first. If this match is given ample time, it’ll be a barn-burner. Aries and Neville are outstanding workers and are about as entertaining as anybody on the entire roster. This match will most likely be filled with huge high spots, stiff strikes, and some brutal submission psychology. As much as I hate the fact that it didn’t make it to the main card, this is the perfect match to get the crowd fired up for the rest of the night. Let’s assume it goes on as the third and final pre-show match, if that’s the case, it makes sense.
This match is really a toss-up. Aries has been a hot commodity for the company over the past couple of months. After moving to the commentary table temporarily after an injury, he took on the role as a seasoned vet. Now back wrestling again, he looks as good as ever. In fact, he’s 10-0 since his return to the ring (cagematch.net). Neville, on the other hand, has been the perfect champion for a division that had been floundering ever since the Cruiserweight Classic. He’s brought notoriety and stability to a title that was pretty stagnant since inception. Would the company let him lose the title already?
At the end of the day, Aries is as big of a star as Neville. Maybe not in the WWE yet, but that might just be a matter of time. Having two guys of their magnitude feud over this belt after Mania makes so much sense and will most likely happen. What better way to start that off with a title change. Aries wins.
