WWE Championship Match
Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Randy Orton

Result: Randy Orton defeats Bray Wyatt to win the WWE Championship.

Rating: 2.75 out of 5 stars

Perhaps the match with the most interesting build of them all, Wyatt vs. Orton began back in August 2016. Mind games, alliances and arson highlighted this feud, which had WrestleMania 33 written all over it. They had faced off once before this, but the Show of Shows took this to another level.

Weird mind games played through this match, as Wyatt had worm visuals appear and cover the squared circle. Bizarre and something I can’t say I’ve seen before. It was made to replicate Orton burning down Sister Abigail’s resting place.

All of this was unique, but the crowd never felt into this. They were burned out after Triple H vs. Rollins and the music, which is unfortunate. This match also came five-and-a-half hours into the show.

However, this never really got off the ground. It didn’t go to the next level that plenty of the other matches did, which brings down its grade. This even had a title change, but it felt abrupt with how it went down.

Orton doesn’t really need a title reign at this stage of his career, and ending Wyatt’s after six weeks seems too soon. It’s one of those strange, safe booking techniques WWE tends to use at WrestleMania. They hadn’t really throughout this show, but it was glaring in one of the biggest ones of the night.
