5. No Place for the SmackDown Tag Division

From the rejuvenated Usos to the always on fire American Alpha to the incredibly talented yet scarcely used Breezango, the SmackDown tag division is rich with talent. Yet, they would not be featured even on the kick-off show. The fact that a title would not get defended at WrestleMania 33 devalues it beyond repair. The fact that it was the only title to not be showcased last night tells tons about it.

For as much as the blue brand achieved as the land of opportunity, the tag division is a blemish on the creative team. Despite having incredibly talented young athletes, the division is clumsy even at its best. The only good moments to come out the division were courtesy of Heath Slater and Rhyno. Perhaps this should be one of the blue brand’s prime goals heading into a new beginning post-WrestleMania 33.

Had some of those meaningless musical performances were removed we could have watched the Usos and American Alpha slug it out. However, that wouldn’t be the case as the entire division was nothing but an afterthought. Now would be a good time to rethink their approach to tag team wrestling. Raw has picked another huge team in the form of Hardy Boys. Whereas SmackDown would still struggle to finds its niche when it comes to the tag division.
