Lio Rush announced his departure from Ring of Honor via his official Twitter. Could WWE be in his future?

Lio Rush announced his departure from Ring of Honor over the weekend via his official Twitter.  Rush is 22 years old,  5-foot-6, 160 pounds and has only been wrestling since late 2014. In that short amount of time he has done nothing but improve and impress.

The “Man of the Hour” has not only wrestled for ROH but also Combat Zone Wrestling and Maryland Championship Wrestling.  In those three promotions he has captured the MCW Tag Team titles, CZW Wired Championship twice and most notably, the ROH Top Prospect Tournament in 2016.

The Maryland product has already started accepting independent bookings, filling up dates until May. Some bookings already advertised are CZW World Championship match, EVOLVE and more. What has caught the attention of many is his pinned tweet and his choice of words.

The 2016 Top Prospect has claimed this year is “The TAKEOVER.” This could possibly be just motivation for the young up-and-comer or it could be a not so subtle nod to NXT.

The connection is there. His former tag team partner with whom he won the MCW Tag Team Championships, Patrick Clark, currently wrestles for NXT.  Someone like Rush who has already made a name for himself throughout the independents but is still so young (22) is truly a top prospect for WWE developmental, who are always looking to add young fresh talent.

The next NXT TakeOver is NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20. Unless Rush cancels a few bookings he will probably not be in attendance like a former TNA World Champion was for NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

However, there is still TakeOver: Brooklyn in August and another TakeOver in November. Triple H has shown that he likes to debut former ROH talent and big free agent acquisitions at TakeOver events.

Lio Rush is certainly a name to look out for in 2017, the Man of the Hour has proclaimed it’s the takeover.
