Matches Announced
Next week, we will get Aleister Black in action. It’s his second match since TakeOver. Drew McIntyre vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas is also set, as well as the UK Title bout with Tyler Bate and Jack Gallagher. Not too shabby!
Steel Cage Match
Tye Dilling vs. Eric Young
Result: Tye Dillinger defeated Eric Young via escaping the cage.
Rating: 3.25 out of 5 stars
Well, it’s the swan song for Dillinger, who is now on SmackDown Live. He got one last chance to take down Young, who had gotten the best of the Perfect 10 for months.
Only a few minutes in, Young got cut open on his nose. This came during his methodical takedown of Dillinger, while the crowd jeered.
Young had multiple chances of escaping the cage, but chose to attack Dillinger instead. That’s the issue with these kinds of matches — where’s the logic? Cage bouts are fine, but can be foolish in its storytelling.
Well, to add to the effect, we had Young’s forehead be bloodied. It came after a Dillinger superkick. EY quickly got up to try escaping, but again, did not leave. However, he hit a ridiculous elbow drop from the top of the cage!
As Dillinger nearly escaped, the rest of SAnitY came down to the ring. They locked the door, but Kassius Ohno, Roderick Strong and Ruby Riot ran in to make the save. It allowed Dillinger to start scaling the cage, only to climb to the top and hit a cross-body on both Young and Killian Dain. Two top-of-the-cage moves in one match! Dillinger then escaped through the door to win.
A satisfying win for Dillinger, who leaves WWE NXT on top. It ends his feud with SAnitY, who will move on to someone else. This closes the book on another era for developmental and opens a new one.
Also, in an unaired video (because social media push, right?), Dillinger spoke to the crowd about his time in NXT. It’s about two-and-a-half minutes, and can be seen below.
