With Payback in the rear view mirror, we lost forwarded to the next WWE PPV, WWE Backlash.

WWE Payback has come and gone but the schedule is neverending. Up next we have WWE Backlash which is a SmackDown Live exclusive PPV. Backlash will take place on May 21 from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL. It will not be the only wrestling of that weekend, as NXT TakeOver: Chicago is the day before.

With Backlash just 3 weeks away some matches are already confirmed. Those matches are Breezango vs The Usos for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships, AJ Styles vs Chris Jericho for the United States Championship, and Jinder Mahal vs Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. So, while those are already set, I’ll still try to predict where they will end up on the card. The big question heading into this card is what will happen with the Women’s Championship as this past week’s SmackDown Live ended with Natalya, Carmella and Tamina interrupting the championship match between Naomi and Charlottle.

Obvioulsy, the whole match card won’t be entirely championship matches so there are going to be a few singles matches here and there. With that being said, here we go with the predictions.

Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin

Both Zayn and Corbin were on the losing end of the Triple Threat Match that made AJ Styles the No. 1 to the United States Championship. Zayn was the one that took the pin so it’s logical that Corbin has a gripe with him for costing him the US title opportunity. Secondly, this past Tuesday on Talking Smack, Corbin attacked Zayn while he was doing his interview with Renee Young and JBL.

Somehow, these two missed each other while they were in NXT. While this match certainly takes place on SmackDown Live as a main event, it’s a good idea to stretch this feud another three weeks, especially since Corbin is suspended for one of those weeks.

On Talking Smack, Zayn compared what he’s been going through with Corbin to what he went through with Braun Strowman. Corbin isn’t quite the mountain that Strowman is, but he is treated like one so a similar match wouldn’t be shocking.

We all know what Zayn can do in the ring and Corbin is slowly climbing to an elite level as well. With Corbin’s powerful move set and  Zayn’s selling abilities, this match should be a great one and will possibly steal the show.
