By Grant Mannis
In three weeks time, SmackDown Live will present its Backlash event. Here is everything you need to know heading into tonight’s episode?
Just days after winning the United States Championship at Payback, Chris Jericho is set to defend the gold here on SmackDown Live. His opponent will be Kevin Owens, who certainly hopes to avenge the loss he suffered on Sunday.
One man in particular who will be watching the United States Championship match is AJ Styles. For those of you that don’t know, several weeks ago he became number one contender to the title. Most likely, he will go on to face the winner of this contest in the near future.
As one of the top stars on SmackDown Live, Shinsuke Nakamura has captivated audiences with his recent promos. However, it’s been announced that the King of Strong Style will finally make his in-ring debut at Backlash.
The duo known as BreezeDango will look to continue their recent string of success. Currently, they are the number one contenders to the Usos Tag Team Championships.
Towards the closing moments of their Women’s Championship contest, Charlotte Flair and Naomi were attacked off-guard. Last week’s episode ended with the newly formed group of Carmella, Natalya, and Tamina Snuka standing above the women.
Baron Corbin is going to absent from tonight’s episode due to a one-week suspension. This came about when the Lone Wolf chose to assault Sami Zayn on Talking Smack.
Due to interference by Jinder Mahal and the Singh Brothers, Randy Orton lost his “House of Horrors” match against Bray Wyatt. Expect the Viper to seek revenge throughout the episode.
