Bobby Roode in William Regal’s Office

Regal told Roode he wants to discuss his next opponent. Regal set up Strong vs. Itami to determine the No. 1 Contender to the NXT Championship at TakeOver: Chicago. Afterward, Strong walked in.

Itami is the clear favorite, but Strong should be given something to do at TakeOver. We’ll see if that develops soon.

Aleister Black Vignette

A vignette for Black is played, which promotes him being in action on next week’s show.

No. 1 Contenders Battle Royal for the NXT Women’s Championship

Result: Battle Royal ends in a no contest.

Rating: 3.0 out of 5 stars

We had our battle royal to determine Asuka’s next contender at TakeOver: Chicago. There were 15 Superstars in the ring, including Ember Moon, Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross. An unannounced competitor was Candice LeRae (she was referenced as “Candice” a few times) — one of the top female pro wrestling stars — who made her NXT debut here. Could a spot in the Women’s Tournament in the summer be next?

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay looked impressive early. They had the first two eliminations, picking up momentum. Aliyah then got an elimination, but got booed, which was random. Liv Morgan followed that up, before the Iconic Duo teamed up to dump more Superstars over the ropes.

The biggest reaction came when Kay eliminated LeRae, as the Full Sail faithful booed. Cross received “Thank you, Nikki” chants for taking out Aliyah, so there really must be a fan vendetta against the Canadian wrestler, possibly related to the live events around Florida.

The final three were Moon, Cross and Riot, the top stars outside of Asuka. They fought for a few minutes, until Asuka herself interfered to attack everyone in the ring. She sent Moon into the guard rail, which didn’t look pretty and hopefully isn’t something to worry about. Cross and Riot took their own attack.

Great camera work showing how frustrated and beaten up all three competitors were. William Regal then came out to announce a fatal four-way for the title at TakeOver, which will see Riot, Cross and Moon involved. This has all the potential in the world to be better than the fatal four-way from TakeOver: San Antonio, as Moon and Riot are significant in-ring upgrades over Kay and Royce.
