4. AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

Keeping AJ Styles out of the WWE Championship picture will be difficult. He’s feuding with Kevin Owens, already went to battle with John Cena, and doesn’t seem like someone who will face Shinsuke Nakamura – yet. There’s a fresh program waiting for him with Orton, a match we saw on the way to WrestleMania 33, but only on SmackDown Live.

Orton picked up the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 33, defeating Bray Wyatt. The belt hasn’t been defended since, as Wyatt’s move to Raw switched things up. Instead, we’re getting Orton vs. Jinder Mahal for the title at WWE Backlash on Sunday, May 21. Mahal could always win, but we’ll go with the Viper retaining the belt.

Orton vs. Styles would have the chance to be an excellent wrestling match. It’s something we could see Orton on his A-game for, along with the Phenomenal One continuing to show why he’s a supreme talent. Add in the WWE’s top championship being defended, and it makes for a stellar look and feel to close SummerSlam.

However, would WWE trust this match enough to close the show? Orton has headlined plenty of big-name shows, and Styles has already had the marquee singles match on a PPV (Royal Rumble 2017). What won’t go in their favor is Lesnar main eventing the past three SummerSlams, which were against John Cena, Undertaker and Orton, respectively. Lesnar seems likely to head back to this spot, and since he’s on Raw, it would bump Orton vs. Styles out of the equation.
