An official announcement on the WWE United Kingdom Championship Special has been made by the WWE.

Earlier in May, a WWE United Kingdom Championship taping was held in Norwich, England, as part of WWE’s tour of Europe. This took place over two nights, with a UK Championship defense and an NXT TakeOver: Chicago match being made.

On Monday morning, WWE confirmed this UK event for the WWE Network. It will air on Friday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET. A repeat will be on at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Jim Ross and Nigel McGuinness will do the play-by-play for the show. It’s Ross’ first WWE commentary duties since returning at WrestleMania 33 to call Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker.

Matches were announced for this special, which also features 205 Live competitors. Four were confirmed:

"Emanating from Norwich, UK, WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate defends his title against the high-flying Mark Andrews; Pete Dunne and Trent Seven battle to become the number one contender to face the UK Champion at NXT TakeOver: Chicago this Saturday; Wolfgang faces Joseph Conners; and Rich Swann and Dan Moloney take on TJP and The Brian Kendrick in a tag team match."

These matches should provide a showcase for the top WWE United Kingdom Championship competitors, who we’ll eventually see on a weekly show on the WWE Network. The company hasn’t confirmed when that will happen, so it seems this special is a way to prep everyone for the impending arrival of this show.

The UK special will be part of a packed weekend of WWE programming. Not only is this taking place on Friday, but TakeOver: Chicago will go live on Saturday, May 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET. WWE Backlash will follow this up on Sunday, May 21, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Both shows can be seen on the WWE Network.
