Highlights of the Division

It disappointing to hear that the top contender for the Universal Championship will be out of action for about 6 months. Braun Strowman is the only guy to have a legitimate shot at realistically dethroning Brock Lesnar for the title based on his size and strength alone. The Monster Among Men has clearly been the MVP on Monday Nights for the past few months and it will be depressing to not see him get an opportunity to challenge the Beast for the Universal Title.

In the meantime, the main-event of RAW’s next pay per view will feature the rest of the world title challengers in a Fatal 5 Way Match to determine the next No. 1 Contender. All 5 of these men have the credentials to challenge Brock Lesnar but only 3 men are legitimate contenders.

Roman Reigns knocked off Finn Balor in their match on RAW but it wasn’t enough to climb up ahead of Seth Rollins in the rankings since the Architect scored a DQ victory over Bray Wyatt. Common sense would have to suggest that Reigns might win the match at Extreme Rules since he was primed to get title shot after his huge win over the Undertaker. But guys like Rollins and Wyatt have a legitimate claim to face the Beast based on their recent bookings.

As for Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, both men will need to match up and score some victories over their Extreme Rules opponents to build much need momentum and credibility. Both men are still considered the pretenders of the division based on their record and the opponents they have faced. They’ll need to prove themselves and to the world that they are the dark horses of the main-event match.

These are the rankings for the division this week.

  • Top Contender: Braun Strowman (7 Wins – 5 Losses)
