Will Tommaso Ciampa-Johnny Gargano Main Event NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III?

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are surely on their way to a match at the next NXT TakeOver event.

To close out NXT TakeOver: Chicago, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano didn’t just lose their match for the NXT Tag Team Championship — they lost their bond, their tag team and their friendship. It came when Ciampa shockingly turned on Gargano, throwing him into the set and sending him crashing off the stage and through equipment.

Gargano vs. Ciampa hadn’t been teased before, but after all their triumphs and failures to reclaim glory, it seemed like a fitting end to this tag team. This will embark them on a journey to an eventual match, potentially at the next NXT TakeOver event.

Following Chicago, NXT has the succeeding TakeOver as Brooklyn III in August. This is home to the first live special from outside Full Sail University, which began in 2015. It has featured Sasha Banks vs. Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship, The Revival vs. DIY for the NXT Tag Team Championship and Shinsuke Nakamura’s first-ever NXT Championship win. So there’s plenty to live up to for anyone that has an NXT match here. But, Gargano and Ciampa may just be the two people to live up to that hype.

We still have three months until this event, but you can probably pencil in this matchup that will become as personal as it’s become since Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn. Depending on the direction NXT takes this, Ciampa and Gargano can even headline TakeOver. However, we’ve never had a non-title match closing out a developmental live special. We already had history with the NXT Tag Team Championship ending Chicago, so might we get this twice in a row?

Of course, this will all depend on the direction of the NXT Championship this summer. We’ll see what Bobby Roode does, along with the next big name to step up to him.
