WWE Backlash 2017: Complete Match Card

Jinder Mahal looks to claim the ultimate prize as he takes on Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at WWE Backlash.

WWE Backlash, which takes place this Sunday, marks the first SmackDown Live exclusive PPV since WrestleMania. It is also the blue brand’s first PPV since the Superstar Shakeup took place. Now that Payback has wrapped up all of the lingering feuds from WrestleMania, Backlash will mark the beginning of a new chapter for SmackDown Live with fresh feuds and new opportunities for Superstars.

Backlash will take place Sunday, May 21, and will be held at the Allstate Arena in the always vocal city of Chicago. How will the arena react to Jinder Mahal taking on Randy Orton for the WWE Championship or the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship not being contested?

Other matches on the card include the entertaining Breezango challenging the vicious Usos for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships, and AJ Styles will look to take down The New Face of America as he challenges Kevin Owens for the United States Championship.

Shinsuke Nakamura will finally make his much anticipated main roster in ring debut at Backlash, as well. He will go toe to toe with Dolph Ziggler. These two, with no title on the line, could actually be the ones to steal the show at the PPV.

There are a few other non-title matches on the card that could be interesting to see, too. We have Baron Corbin taking on Sami Zayn as Corbin looks to continue his mean streak while Zayn looks to salvage his poor win-loss record on SmackDown Live. Former Wyatt Family brothers will also face off at Backlash in a rematch. Erik Rowan won the first match on an episode of SmackDown Live, but will Luke Harper end up evening the odds at Backlash?

As stated before, there will be no title match for the women on the card. Instead, Natalya, Tamina, and Carmella, now known as the Welcoming Committee, will take on the team of Charlotte, Becky, and Naomi. Will this different use of women at a PPV hinder or enhance the women’s division and Backlash as a whole?

Backlash’s kickoff show, as of right now, will feature one match. This will be The Perfect Ten, Tye Dillinger, against one half of the former Vaudevillains, Aiden English. This will be the third time that the two will face off since Tye has been called up to the main roster. Dillinger already holds a 2-0 record against English and will be looking to continue his undefeated streak.
