Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens
Result: Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura win via pinfall
Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars
In our first match of the night, the outspoken duo of Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens competed against Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura. During the early portion of the match, Nakamura contended with Corbin inside of the squared circle. The King of Strong Style kept up the offense for a time, but eventually Zayn wanted in on the action. He wasn’t able to get a piece of Corbin though, because the Lone Wolf made the tag to Owens.
Despite getting the better of Owens at first, Zayn quickly found himself on the defensive. The heels were able to gain control of the match from here, slowing down the pace and wearing Zayn down. Frequent tags between Corbin and Owens ensured both men remained fresh while a restless Nakamura waited impatiently on the other side. Nakamura ended up being knocked off the apron by Corbin on one occasion, but he ended up being able to make the hot tag.
Going straight after the Prizefighter, Nakamura began to lay waste to everything in his way. Dropping Owens to the mat, he attempted a pinfall, however, Corbin was there to make the save. The heels were able to take Zayn out of the equation, yet they began to turn on one another after an argument. A shove by Owens angered Corbin, and so he struck his tag team partner. One Kinshasa later, and Nakamura and Zayn stood tall over Owens.
For the second consecutive week, Nakamura has managed to pin the United States Champion. If he keeps up this trend, there’s no doubt that he’ll receive a title shot in the near future. As for Owens, he was protected from the loss somewhat due to the fact that Corbin turned on him. The dissension itself was a smart decision by the company, as it hypes the every man for yourself feel the Money in the Bank event provides.
