Follow along with our review of Wednesday night’s episode of WWE NXT. Who stood tall?

On Wednesday night, the latest episode of WWE NXT took place from Full Sail University. This was the first one to air from this venue since the go-home edition before NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Tommaso Ciampa made his first appearance since TakeOver, speaking about his actions toward Johnny Gargano. Did he regret what was done? Were there any implications from this?

A main event of Roderick Strong and Kassius Ohno vs. Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe also took place. This pitted four Superstars who have been involved in feuds for the past two months. Who walked out victoriously?

This week’s WWE NXT featured plenty of in-ring action, so let’s see what occurred on May 31:

Tommaso Ciampa Explains His Actions

Ciampa enters the venue hobbling into the ring. He had crutches and a very noticeable limp, all while the crowd had dueling chants for him. This comes after Ciampa attacked Johnny Gargano at the end of NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Ciampa called Johnny Gargano down to the ring to explain, but said Gargano isn’t here. The Psycho Killer explained the injury he suffered at a live event before TakeOver and went into the show with no doubt. He went off on being known as an afterthought, as he assumed people were replacing him in a tag team with Gargano.

Ciampa said he felt something in his knee “pop” during the ladder match, feeling “injured” and not “hurt.” He knew this when he and Gargano were sitting in the ring, after the match, and also didn’t want to be replaced. The former ROH star then went off again, saying if he was about to go away for a while, then so will Gargano.

This was perfectly explained by Ciampa. The injury he suffered meshed into the heel turn explanation, which isn’t the best thing because it will put him out for a while, but it made sense — Ciampa didn’t want Gargano to replace him, so he took him out.

The closing of the promo, with Ciampa saying he’ll return as the “biggest son of a b—h” in WWE NXT, was perfect, too. Let’s see how long it will be until this happens, though, because the show will be hurt by not having what could have been the hottest star of the brand.

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano Injury Update

Tom Philips told the audience Ciampa needs knee surgery, which didn’t sound like a kayfabe answer. For Gargano, however, it had no details revealed.
