No. 1 Contenders Match for the WWE Universal Championship
Finn Balor vs Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe vs Bray Wyatt vs Seth Rollins
Sunday nights main event has legitimate match of the year potential. You take 5 guys who are absolutely blazing hot right now and put them in a match with no rules and the prize of a Universal title opportunity as the goal, you can expect fireworks. Add in the fact that since there are only 6 matches scheduled for a 3-hour show, meaning this should get at least 25 minimum minutes, this might get out of hand, in a good way.
The beauty of this match is that for once, the person that should win, I believe actually will win. But let’s first get out of the way who shouldn’t win. A Seth Rollins win, although does make sense, doesn’t seem to be in the cards. He has unfinished business with Joe, business that should last for much of the summer, and I think that’ll be the reason neither one wins Sunday night. No matter how much I love Bray Wyatt, something just hasn’t clicked since his move RAW. I can’t see him being up next for Lesnar. And Reigns? Come on. Enough is enough. He’s had his chance in the spotlight, it was a disaster. And plus, if all the rumors circulating about the WWE wanting Reigns and Lesnar to battle at Wrestlemania 34 are true, there’s no point in starting that feud now.
And that leaves us with Finn Balor. Make no mistake, guys like Rollins and Ambrose are over as baby faces on the red brand, but Balor is far and away the most popular superstar going on RAW. He’s the perfect candidate for Lesnar for not only that reason, but also because of the fact that he never lost the Universal title that he won at last year’s SummerSlam and has never had a rematch. Sure, a match with Lesnar could be a very long, or short night for “The Demon King” but he’s the clear cut number one guy and Sunday will prove that.
