4. The Shield vs Evolution – Extreme Rules 2014

For about a year and a half prior to the Extreme Rules 2014 pay per view, The Shield comprised of Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns, were about as dominant as any stable in the history of the WWE.  They wreaked havoc over the WWE roster, first playing mercenaries for CM Punk before becoming the bodyguards of The Authority.  But about 2 months before this showdown with Evolution, The Shield changed their stance on Triple H and his goons and turned against them.  This led to a 6-man tag at Wrestlemania 30 against The Game’s buddies, The New Age Outlaws and Kane in which The Shield absolutely dominated.

Triple H then took matters into his own hands against the rebels and challenged them to match at E.R. against himself and former Evolution members, Randy Orton and Batista.  And it’s a good thing he did.  Had he not, we would never have seen this 20 minute masterpiece.  It was a perfectly told story of the old guard trying to slow down and ground the younger and more fiery trio, only to not have have enough left in the tank to stop them.  It was controlled chaos and all 6 men looked phenomenal.  It was one of those matches where nobody’s standing in the company gets hurt because it was just that good.

The 2014 Extreme Rules was a coming out party for The Shield.  Sure they had accomplished a ton in the time they already spent in the WWE, but this match proved that these guys were ready to be superstars.  And that they have.  In just over two years after this match, all three members had become world champions.  And although it hasn’t been roses along the way for all of them, they are currently the faces of the company and should remain that way for a long time.
