The Ravishing Russian Proves Her Talent
Upon making her debut to SmackDown Live, Lana wanted nothing more than to earn a shot at the Women’s Championship. Although her debut was met with a solid crowd reaction, Commissioner Shane McMahon refused to let her enter the female Money in the Bank ladder match. Disappointed, Lana rushed to the backstage area, seemingly giving up on the idea.
Later on in the night, Becky Lynch, Charlotte, and Naomi fought the Welcoming Committee in a six-women tag team match. Towards the closing moments, Naomi was knocked off the apron by Lana. The timely assist allowed the Welcoming Committee to emerge victorious which in turn infuriated Naomi. Rushing into Shane McMahon’s office, Naomi demanded a match with Lana at Money in the Bank. Offering to put her Women’s Championship on the line, the contest was made official moments later.
If Lana doesn’t compete ahead of the MiTB event, fans are going to have a hard time believing she’s a credible threat. Thus far, the Ravishing Russian has only stepped into the ring on one occasion. Quite honestly, the match wasn’t a good indicator as to whether or not she’s a quality performer. The contest itself was a multi-woman tag team match, and so her weaknesses were masked by other superstars.
To alleviate this concern, WWE should show that Lana is indeed capable of delivering a strong in-ring performance. Pairing her against a quality talent such as Becky Lynch would be a great way to reintroduce Lana to fans. It doesn’t have to be a five star-classic, however, the contest needs to show potential. Should she prove to be an adequate athlete, the match between her and Naomi will become much more interesting.
