3. Cody Rhodes
If Cody Rhodes had done nothing else with the title, I think I would still put him at #3 on this list just for bringing back the classic Intercontinental Championship design.
Well, he ended up doing more as champ, too. Rhodes had two reigns with the Intercontinental Championship for a total of 256 days.
Rhodes’ first reign that lasted 234 days began when he defeated Ezekiel Jackson for the Intercontinental Championship on an episode of SmackDown. Rhodes went on to defend his championship against various opponents.
He found himself in feuds with his former Legacy members, Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase. He then brought back the belt’s classic design before defending it against John Morrison. Rhodes even had a feud with Booker T over the Intercontinental Championship, too.
Rhodes continued to impress as champ with outstanding performances in the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber. These performances led to a WrestleMania feud with Big Show that Big Show ended up winning.
However, Rhodes continued his feud with Big Show and regained the Intercontinental Championship at Extreme Rules only to lose the Intercontinental Championship three weeks later to the returning Christian.
Rhodes was an incredible Intercontinental Champion that was able to have a long and successful run in the midst of mid carders playing hot potato with the belt. He brought prestige back to the classic Intercontinental Championship.
