WWE Battleground 2017 Match Card: Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton Set
The main event of the WWE Battleground 2017 pay-per-view was created, and will see Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton.
On July 23, 2017, the WWE Battleground pay-per-view will take place. It’s a SmackDown Live-exclusive show, and will emanate from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA.
On Tuesday night’s episode of SmackDown Live, the main event of this show was created. It will see Jinder Mahal vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. However, there’s an added stipulation: it’s a Punjabi Prison match.
First, Orton made his way to the ring and demanded that he gets a rematch with Mahal. This came after the WWE Champion went after Bob Orton, Randy’s father, on last Tuesday’s SmackDown Live.
In response, Shane McMahon came to the ring and heard out the Viper’s complaints. Orton said he wanted a rematch for the WWE Championship, and after thinking it over, McMahon agreed. However, Mahal would be allowed to pick the stipulation, leading to his entrance and decision on the Punjabi Prison.
This is the third time Mahal and Orton have battled for the WWE Championship. The first match came at Backlash, where Mahal won the title from Orton. They had a rematch at Money in the Bank, which saw the Maharaja claimed victory again.
As for the Punjabi Prison, the last match of its kind was done at No Mercy 2007. This saw Batista defeat The Great Khali.
Mahal vs. Orton is the first match set for Battleground, with other feuds still developing for the show. It’s just under one month away, so there’s time to build the rest of the card.
