The Smackdown Live Mid Card Division
Highlights of the division
Baron Corbin took care of business in defeating Sami Zayn in a decent fashion. These type of wins are mandatory to keep the momentum hot on the Lone Wolf after his big win at Money in the Bank.
It looks like Shinsuke Nakamura will want to get a crack against Corbin after the beat down he’s received in the past few weeks. If Corbin wants to be elevated as a bonafide main event star—he must hand Nakamura his first singles loss on the main roster. Nakamura is the star of Smackdown Live but Corbin is the future of the blue brand—and must be treated as such.
Next week will be a battle royal to determine who will face Kevin Owens at Battleground. The obvious choice will be AJ Styles and it’s not even close. Last time both men faced off for the title at Backlash, it ended in a count-out victory for Kevin Owens.
It seems like this feud might go on throughout the summer and it won’t be surprising if AJ Styles wins the title at Battleground. The WWE Championship picture might be booked till Summerslam so the Phenomenal One must capture the US Championship to justify his spot in the mid-card division.
Meanwhile, for the rest of the division.
Still, no word on Rusev’s whereabouts even though he was spotted in some live events last weekend. Still strange that he threatened to confront Shane McMahon over a WWE title shot he demand and yet has been silent for weeks soon afterward.
The Bulgarian Brute, if used correctly, can make massive waves as a serious contender in both the WWE and US Championship picture. His former tag team partner Jinder Mahal made one heck of a run and nabbed the WWE Championship six weeks after arriving from RAW—Rusev can pull that off in half the time if given the chance.
