Xavier Woods vs Jey Uso

Result: Xavier Woods via pinfall

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Our next match of the evening features Xavier Woods going one on one with Jey Uso. As both teams made their respective entrances, a highlight video was shown for the rap battle segment from last week. When the video concluded, the two opponents started the contest with a series of strikes. Woods talked trashed early on, eager to get inside the mind of Jey and have some fun in the process. Unfortunately, Jimmy Uso grabbed Woods’ leg while the referee was talking to Kofi Kingston and Big E. Because of this, Jey was able to take control of the match for a time.

Towards the closing moments, things got physical between the superstars watching at ringside. The action made its way inside of the squared circle, which led to the referee ejecting everyone except Jey and Woods to the backstage area. Looking to capitalize off of the distraction, Jey tried to end things with the superkick. Woods went on to kick out at two, and in turn dodged an Uso Splash. Setting up Jey on the middle rope, the New Day member hit a vicious elbow drop to secure the win.

Following this match, the attention shifted to another backstage segment. This time, Shane McMahon announced that a female number one contender’s match will take place at Battleground. The match will feature Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Lana, Natalya, and Tamina Snuka. Naomi was present and approved of the decision, and even participated when Carmella arrived to say a few words. Presenting a letter from her lawyer fighting the suspension of James Ellsworth, she hoped to arrange his return to the Blue Brand. However, Shane McMahon chose to deny the request.
