5. Kota Ibushi vs Kenny Omega

After being away from the promotion for the last two and half years, Kota Ibushi was named as one of the participants in the G1 Climax. Instantly fans became to dream of a potential matchup between Ibushi and Kenny Omega.

The two have a history as both friends and rivals and a matchup in the G1 Climax would be a huge match. The two first began a feud on the indies and competed in a two out of three falls match in which Ibushi won.

The two soon became friends and eventually won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Titles together. The two would team together for a big chunk of time until Ibushi decided to join the heavyweight division.

The two have amassed major success since they went their separate ways with both winning multiple tournaments and championships. Both have also been on the verge of winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Omega is coming into G1 this year as the reigning champion of the event. No superstar has won the event two years in a row since Hiroyoshi Tenzan did it from 2003-04. Omega having to beat his former best friend to do so would set up a great story for Omega to concur.

The two are both excellent in the ring and could easily put on a five-star classic. The former best friends in the finals of G1 this year would be an excellent matchup and one that many fans are rooting for.
