1. Tetsuya Naito vs. Kenny Omega
Going into the G1 Climax is no better final we could get than Kenny Omega going against Tetsuya Naito. The two have become two of the most polarizing stars in NJPW over the last two years and a clash between the two would be fantastic.
The two met last year in the B-Block finals of the 2016 G1 Climax, with the match being considered by many as the best in the tournament. In a back and forth affair, Kenny Omega was able to pick up the win.
The momentum from the huge win help lead Omega to defeat Hirooki Goto in the finals to win the 2016 G1 Climax. A huge rematch in this year’s final would be a fantastic way to end the G1 Climax as both men seem on a mission to dethrone Okada.
Kenny Omega has gotten close in his last two meetings with Okada, but has come up a bit short both times. Omega is set to face Okada in G1 this year as they are in the same block. Omega will try and beat Okada and carry that momentum into winning G1 once again.
Naito however, has beaten Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in the past. However, his title reign was short lived as Okada would win back the championship just a few months later.
The match could also be the contest to determine who is leading the more dominant faction in NJPW. Omega is the leader of Bullet Club, while Naito is the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon. A win by either man could solidify their faction as the strongest in NJPW.
