Jon Jones: WWE SummerSlam Appearance Has ‘Crossed My Mind’

facebooktwitterreddit

UFC Light Heavyweight Jon “Bones” Bones took to Twitter to tease a SummerSlam appearance.

Follow his victory against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, Jon Jones called out Brock Lesnar. Since then, rumors of Brock Lesnar’s departure to go back to the UFC have been circulating. There was a mixed reaction when Paul Heyman stated that Brock Lesnar would leave WWE if he lost the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. Some thought it virtually guaranteed that Brock Lesnar would retain. Others thought it was WWE’s escape plan to explain Lesnar’s eventual departure.

Of course, as of right now, Brock Lesnar is the WWE Universal Champion and that is the main priority. That being said, Jon Jones sees SummerSlam as an opportunity to draw interest to their potential fight down the road. When the 2-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion was asked on Twitter if he was going to be sitting ringside at the biggest party of the Summer, this was his response.

Obviously, nothing is confirmed, but what if he does show up? Would a Jon Jones appearance all but confirm Lesnar leaving and guarantee a new Universal Champion? I think it would. Lesnar still has to serve the remainder of his suspension and would need to get into fighting shape sooner rather than later.

We all know SummerSlam is the second biggest show of the year and WWE is no stranger to having celebrity appearances. I think the only way this happens is if WWE is involved and can make something out of it. Ultimately, Jones’ tweet leaves us with more questions than answers. Only time will tell if we see Jones and Lesnar face off at, and possibly beyond, SummerSlam.
