Ever since Dolph Ziggler vanquished The Miz to capture the Intercontinental Championship in their memorable rivalry last year, the WWE hasn’t found a way to utilize the veteran performer. Here are five ways Ziggler can be repackaged for 2017 and beyond.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good repackaging? We wouldn’t have been given Kane’s Hall of Famer career without Glenn Jacobs’s ill-fated runs as dentist Isaac Yankem and the blasphemous “Fake Diesel”. Heck, even Fandango and Tyler Breeze were repackaged in some sense, changing their gimmicks as single’s competitors into “The Fashion Police”. And who would have seen Jinder Mahal as the “angry foreigner” in his WWE Championship reign after being comedic relief as part of “The Three Man Band”.

Dolph Ziggler is no stranger to playing a variety of gimmicks either, and it looks like the former member of “The Spirit Squad” – and Kerwin White’s one-time golf caddy, but it’s probably better if we forget about that one – will be headed for another look in the near future.

Recently, FW4Online.com’s Bryan Alvarez reported that Ziggler will be “repackaged”, and this is the reason for his absence from television. Ziggler hasn’t been on SmackDown Live since being unceremoniously eliminated first in the Independence Day Battle Royal, which decided the No. 1 contender to the United States Championship.

Alvarez implies that he doesn’t have any idea what this “repackaging” entails, which might mean that the creative team isn’t even completely sure how they want to proceed with this either. Ziggler has been with the company for 12 years (it sure feels like eight), so they may not be able to get away with giving him a new name or something too dramatic. But for weeks, there’s been speculation that he could head down to NXT to continue to help the young up-and-comers in the company.

Here are a few different ways the WWE can repackage Ziggler, who has won a title in the company at every step of the ladder.
