NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III Results: Highlights, Analysis, and Grades
Follow along with our review of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.
On Saturday night, NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. It’s the third consecutive year a TakeOver event will be held at this venue.
In 2015, TakeOver: Brooklyn was the first major NXT show to be held outside of Full Sail University. This allowed over 10,000 fans to fill the Barclays Center for a groundbreaking wrestling event. This saw Bayley defeat Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s Championship and Finn Balor retain the NXT Championship over Kevin Owens, who competed in his last match for the brand.
In 2016, TakeOver: Brooklyn II had Shinsuke Nakamura defeat Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship. This marked Nakamura’s first title win in the WWE, after he competed in his first match just four months earlier.
For the 2017 show, it will be headlined by Bobby Roode vs. Drew McIntyre for the NXT Championship. It’s the first time McIntyre will compete at a TakeOver event, after he arrived to developmental in April. Roode won the title at TakeOver: San Antonio in January and remained strong with the belt since.
Asuka will look to extend her record reign as NXT Women’s Champion when she faces Ember Moon. It’s a long-awaited rematch between the two, as they faced off during WrestleMania 33 weekend. The Empress retained in somewhat shady fashion and Moon had to work her way back to the title picture.
The Authors of Pain will defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against SAnitY. It’s the first time this heel stable has received a title opportunity, and it will be to give Akam and Rezar their first pinfall loss in NXT.
The other two matches will see Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Aleister Black vs. Hideo Itami. Who will walk out with a win?
