WWE SummerSlam 2017: Finn Balor’s ‘Demon’ Returns (Video)

After being locked away for one year, Finn Balor’s Demon persona is back and better than ever at SummerSlam.

At SummerSlam 2016, Finn Balor won the WWE Universal Championship match, while being the Demon for the first time on the main roster. It proved to be short-lived, however, as he suffered a serious shoulder injury that put him out until the Raw after WrestleMania 33.

Since the show in August ’16, Balor hasn’t brought back the Demon. However, on the Raw before SummerSlam 2017, he confirmed he would have it return to face Bray Wyatt.

As the sixth match of the main SummerSlam show, Balor entered as the Demon King. He received an ovation from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY as he made his way to the ring to face Wyatt. Even a creepy “he’s got the whole world in his hands,” which Wyatt is known for saying, got played and drew a reaction.

A star-studded way for the Demon King to return, and at an appropriate time. It’s at a show Balor broke out at, where he returns to for redemption.

In the past when Balor breaks out the Demon, he usually wins. The exception was NXT TakeOver: The End when Samoa Joe defeated him to retain the NXT Championship in a Steel Cage. This was also one of Balor’s last NXT matches.

So, at SummerSlam, look for this to trend in the former NXT Champion’s direction. It’s an opportunity to get a big win and create momentum that hasn’t been seen for him since 2016.
