Asuka remained the NXT Women’s Champion at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, defeating Ember Moon. However, it came at a price that will cost her the next two months with a broken collarbone.

Earlier Monday, WWE.com reported that the undefeated NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka suffered an injury during her successful title defense against Ember Moon. This took place at Saturday’s NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III event at the Barclays Center.

The announcement of this injury comes out of left field. The champion appeared to be in good shape at the end of match and everything seemed to business as usual.

Below is WWE’s official statement on Asuka’s injury:

"“Due to the injury, The Empress of Tomorrow is not medically cleared to compete, and no official timetable has been given for her return. The typical recovery time for a broken collarbone is 6-8 weeks, according to ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield, who tended to Asuka in Brooklyn.”"

With the Empress of Tomorrow potentially out of action for up to 2 months there are many questions that arise. Will this injury force Asuka to relinquish the title? Does this halt a potential main roster call up? With the Mae Young Classic coming up, could that be used to crown the next NXT Women’s Champion?

Asuka’s injury leaves everything up in the air, with an unknown future for the NXT Women’s Championship. We’ll have to wait until more information comes out before we see a clear plan as to what’s next, especially once the next NXT TV taping happens and if there is an announcement on Wednesday’s episode of WWE NXT.
