John Cena has spent his career inspiring others and now it was their turn to show how much it meant to them
Sometimes a heartwarming moment can come from an unexpected source. Case in point, the video below produced by the cellular phone provider Cricket Wireless. In the video, John Cena is presented with a stack of fan mail thanking him for being such a positive influence on their lives with each one explaining how he had helped them in various ways. Some are cancer survivors, some had given up hope after auto accidents, but each one had taken Cena’s message of “Never Give Up” to heart and used it to overcome their tragedies.
As Cena reads the letters, he becomes visibly moved by their stories and the video makes it clear he read each of them out loud. The final message comes in the form of a video from a young fan talking about his mother’s battle with cancer:
By now many wrestling fans are used to seeing Cena surprise fans at hospitals and other social events and subsequently reduce them to a blubbering mess so it’s interesting to see the tables turned. Even the most ardent Cena critic would have a hard time finding any fault here and I found it refreshing for fans to be able to say “thank you” in such an unexpected way. This video proves that no matter what your opinion may be about his in-ring character, there is little doubt that John Cena’s message resonates with exactly the right audience.
As we get older, we become more cynical because that’s just how life works. We stop viewing the world the way a child does and our wonder and amazement soon give way to the harsh realities that come with adulthood. But every now and again we get the chance to witness just how much a positive message can inspire not only children but adults as well. Cena’s “Never Give Up” creed is more than just a catchphrase for these fans and even the man himself was overwhelmed by it’s impact on their lives.
