WWE: Brock Lesnar’s Potential UFC Fight in Doubt After Jon Jones’ Failed Drug Test
By Harry Austen
For almost three months, Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones have been hyping up a future super fight in the UFC. However, according to a new report, the fight looks to be in serious doubt.
Late yesterday afternoon, TMZ broke the story on Jon Jones testing positive for steroids in his UFC 214 victory over Daniel Cormier.
The report continues:
"Jones tested positive for Turinabol — an anabolic steroid. […] Jones will now go through the disciplinary process and his title could be stripped, which would make the fight a “no contest” and the title would go back to Cormier."
Jones has now failed two drug tests. For the first incident, he was banned for a year. However, this time around he could be banned for up to four years. Which I’m sure Brock Lesnar isn’t happy to hear.
As mentioned above, the two megastars have been teasing a future fight down the line for the past two to three months. In what would be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. However, if Jones is banned for four years, the fight will most probably never happen.
Lesnar still has around six months left on his UFC suspension. Which wouldn’t have been an issue. Lesnar is contractually obligated to remain in the WWE until his contract expires, which is reportedly, the day after WrestleMania. This would mean, that if Lesnar hands in his notice to USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) soon, he would ride out the suspension with time to spare before he leaves the WWE. Then, after a few months of training, press, etc., the fight could have taken place in June or July of next year. However, now, this is clearly not the case.
If Jones is banned for four years, the fight is completely out the window. Moreover, Lesnar leaving the WWE may also be out the window. Lesnar wants money fights, and ideally, he wants them booked in soon. He won’t want to wait around four years, when he could sign another contract after WrestleMania, which is guaranteed money. Moreover, who knows if the fight will be half as lucrative in four years?

Brock’s career is on the decline, and if you think he’s willing to wait that long for the fight against Jones, that may not draw, you must be crazy. Especially if the WWE are willing to pay big bucks for The Beast, I can’t see him leaving anytime soon.
