WWE Confirms Big Cass’ ACL Tear; Undergoes Knee Surgery

During a match against Enzo Amore, Big Cass suffered an injury. At the time, it was unclear on the severity of the damage. However, the WWE recently revealed some info, shedding some light on the matter.

As previously mentioned, the two former best friends and tag-team partners, Enzo Amore and Big Cass, battled in a Brooklyn street fight on the latest edition of WWE Raw.

To prove to the crowd that it was, in fact, a street fight, Enzo brought out a shopping cart full of weapons to use at his disposal. However, leading into commercials it was all Cass. Showing yet again another dominant performance, over the suspected backstage heat magnet, Enzo Amore.

No one was expecting Enzo to pick up the victory, or even a fluke win. To my knowledge, Amore hasn’t beaten Cass one-on-one ever. And it shouldn’t have changed here.

However, after a bad landing from Cass – after missing a big boot and jacking his knee on the outside – you could tell the match wasn’t going to plan. Big Cass then dropped to the matt after attempting the Empire Elbow. It wasn’t looking good, people.

The ref threw up the “X,” signaling a legit injury, and the doctors came over – while Big Cass was screeching in agony. At this point, I knew the injury wasn’t a work, conversely, I wasn’t sure if it was a minor sprain or tear.

But now we have a concrete answer, as the WWE have released an official statement regarding Cass’ injury, which reads:

"Big Cass underwent successful surgery to repair an ACL tear in his left knee, sustained during the Brooklyn Street Fight against Enzo Amore on Raw. The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas Thursday night, and Cass has already begun rehabilitation."

WWE also uploaded some graphic photos from the surgery, if that’s your thing, on WWE.com.

It’s always hard to speculate a return date for an injury. However, the average time for ACL rehabilitation is around nine months. Which means we could be waiting as long as June (next year) to see Big Cass on WWE TV.

I’m never a fan of seeing someone out injured, especially for this long. And especially when he’s just started to get a big push. However, this could be a blessing in disguise. He clearly hasn’t been lighting the world of fire, in what feels like a year long feud, against Enzo Amore. It also feels like the WWE didn’t really have a long term plan for Cass, moreover, they were putting him against Enzo to just kill time. However, now he’s out, the WWE can really plan to execute a great returning feud, and hopefully give us more in terms of character development.
