The second round and the quarterfinals of the WWE Mae Young Classic have been released, and here’s a look at the top five matches of round two.

Thus far, the WWE Mae Young Classic has delivered, and while much of the focus on social media has shifted to an impending duel between the Four Horsewomen of WWE and the Four Horsewomen of MMA, the fact is that the wrestling in the ring has been far more compelling than any manufactured storylines that the WWE‘s social media machine wants to churn out.

Although there have been lapses on commentary and a couple of wonky finishes (Rachel Evers vs. Abbey Laith was a quality match marred by a deflating finish), the second round of the “MYC” has been a rousing success.

I’d highly recommend watching the vignettes prior to the matches to get a better sense for some of the character work here, because it is excellent. Kairi Sane is an unsurprising star when it comes to playing a character, because her charisma is just as undeniable as her pirate gimmick is unique. However, keep a close eye on anything involving Lacey Evans, as the NXT star is emerging into a real star of her own.

Here are the five best matches of the Mae Young Classic from round two, and remember that this is just one person’s opinion. An honorable mention goes to Mia Yim vs. Shayna Baszler, which is worth watching simply due to Yim’s electricity in the ring.

Important Note: I did my best not to spoil the actual match results, but it’s best if you watch the matches first before reading what follows. Thank you.
