WWE No Mercy 2017: Why Nia Jax Won’t Win

At WWE No Mercy 2017, Nia Jax will get her first real crack at the Raw Women’s Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match with Sasha Banks, Emma, and current champion Alexa Bliss. What are her chances of winning?

Nia Jax is consistently hyped up by the commentary team as the most dominant female superstar in WWE, but the “Force of Greatness” doesn’t have a WWE Raw Women’s Championship to back that up. In fact, Jax has never been given a real chance to win the title, mostly spending her time squashing people or suffering fluky losses at the hands of either Sasha Banks and Bayley (depending on which of the two Vince McMahon feels like placing in the main event that month).

Finally, Nia is getting what seems like a fair crack at the women’s title, which will take place at WWE No Mercy 2017. The match was first booked as a straight-up rematch between Banks and Bliss, who won her title back on an episode of Raw. Thankfully, the tag team of Emma and Nia picked up a victory over the unbalanced pairing of Banks and Bliss to make the match a Fatal Four-Way for No Mercy.

As I wrote earlier, Jax has quietly made huge improvements over the past few months. She used to be a target of jokes among fans on the Internet after some ghastly botches in a match with Charlotte Flair, even failing to catch Charlotte on a moonsault. But many wrestlers have an off performance, and Jax has blossomed in the ring ever since. She was called up to the main roster from NXT a bit sooner than she should have been, but Nia has become more confident on the mic and in the ring, to the point where she is deserving of a run with the title.

Again, this match at No Mercy on Sept. 24, represents Jax’s best chance at capturing the title. Even though she turned on her former best friend by dumping Bliss to the canvas after parading “Five Feet of Fury” on her back following Bliss’s reclamation of the Raw Women’s Championship, Jax seems to be locked in as a heel.

CageSide Seats’s rumor section has a rumor stating that the long-term plan for Bliss is to feud with Jax. Because of this, I have a feeling that Bliss is destined to retain at No Mercy. Unless if they intend to turn her babyface, I have a feeling Jax will be the one “chasing” the championship, perhaps leaving Banks to move to a different program.

A Fatal Four-Way doesn’t strike me as the ideal place for Jax to win a championship. While you could say that it’s an achievement to defeat three other superstars, it’s a lot easier for, say, Bliss to steal a victory by pinning Emma – or simply defend her title through some other cowardly means.

For Jax, a dominant victory in a singles match may be a better way to coronate her in her first championship victory. Over the past few months, it seems like the WWE has been interested in slowly pushing Nia towards a championship victory, and I expect them to continue with this slow progression to tell a deeper story between Jax and Bliss. Of course, the WWE creative team is barely capable of telling actual stories, so they could just as easily slap the title on Jax. But I think the plan is for Bliss to continue her run at the top of the Raw Women’s Division, with Jax eventually taking the title from her in the future.
