Brock Lesnar is a very controversial figure in the wrestling community. Some people love him, some people hate him. However, whatever category you fall in, you have to accept that the WWE needs him.
After taking a stroll on Twitter, I saw a long thread involving two individuals arguing about Brock Lesnar. Moreover, arguing on why he’s still in the WWE. Hence, me writing this article to set the record straight on why Lesnar is still at WWE; and, furthermore, why the WWE needs The Beast Beast Incarnate.
One of the main reasons the WWE needs Lesnar is because he is a legitimate athlete, one in which, that has fought in a legitimate sport. Now, I’m not taking shots at the WWE – calling the sport a farce – however, there is something to say about athletes fighting in actual competitive bouts. When Lesnar made the switch back from the UFC to the WWE, he felt different.
Of course, he was a freak of nature before he moved to the UFC, however, by actually competing in the Octagon, he seemed more vicious and capable of afflicting much more harm on his opponents inside the squared circle. The feeling is still the same when he competes in the ring today. And we need more legitimacy in wrestling.
As well as being a legitimate athlete, he is one of only two men to defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania – and was the first to do so. Because of this, Lesnar’s stock is still through the roof. Fans will never, ever, forget the fact that Lesnar defeated the streak. And because of this, the aura of The Beast is insurmountable. He’s one of the only few men left to have this quality.
Another reason Lesnar is incredibly valuable to the WWE is that, when motivated, he can have incredible matches. Now, some may argue that Lesnar has gotten lazy – and I wouldn’t disagree – however, when Lesnar’s on top form, you’re getting your money’s worth. Mixed in with the legitimate background, The Conqueror can do things not many his size can do. His gimmick may be Suplex City, however, he’s far more than that.
Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman, loves to spout that this client is a ‘once in a lifetime attraction’, and he’s not wrong. Brock truly is one of a kind: NCAA Heavyweight Champion, Five-time World Champion, and UFC Heavyweight Champion – no one in the WWE can match what Lesnar has legitimately accomplished. Like it or not, those are the facts.
Finally, and arguably the biggest reason the WWE need Brock Lesnar, is the fact that he’s still a massive draw for the company. In an age where the WWE are desperate for ratings, Lesnar is the answer. Along with free agent John Cena, Lesnar is one the last few guys in the WWE that can pop a huge rating, and increase ticket sales. And when he appears, he sure does bring a big fight feel.
Statistically, Lesnar’s segments draw in the most viewership on average on Raw. In terms of increasing Network subscriptions, it’s harder to tell. However, the Network has seen increases following his marque matches at the Royal Rumble (up 1.5 million subscribers), and WrestleMania (up 1.95 million subscribers). Obviously, Lesnar wasn’t the only reason for this spike in subscribers, however, he clearly made a big impact. Even when Lesnar made his return to the UFC, after five years, he helped in drawing in a total of almost $11,000,000 for the UFC 200 pay-per-view. When it comes to his drawing power, The Beast is unquestionably one of the biggest even to this day.

So when you sit there and ask yourself why Lesnar is still the Champion, or paid as much as he is, refer back to this article. The Canadian part timing, streak breaking, legitimate ass-kicking, beast of a draw is needed more than ever in the WWE. And shouldn’t be looked at as a problem, but rather, a solution.
